Reims, a lovely city in the heart of the Champagne region in France and only a 45 min TGV train ride from Paris . All of you know of Reims as the capital of Champagne, as most major Champagne houses ( Pommery, Taittinger, Ruinart, Veuve Clicquout, …) reside there. Just a visit to a few of these Champagne houses is worth the visit.
But.. ofcourse Reims has more to offer than just Champagne.. and for us, car lovers, another reason to put Reims on our visit-wish list , is the Salon Champenois du Véhicule de collection (Champagne Oldtimer Exhibition).
The weekend of March 12-13, the 24th edition took place at the Parc des Expositions (Site Henri Farman). The show attracted over 30.000 visitors in 2 days, to visit the boots of near 550 exhibitors, which makes it a top 5 Oldtimer Show in France. Theme of the 24the edtion was to honour the 10 manufacturers that disappeared in France since the beginning of last century.. La Licorne, Delaugčre-Clayette, Donnet--Zeddel, Georges Roy, Sara, CGV, Genestin, Mathis, Alban, Unic Georges Richard.
There was a lovely atmosphere at the show, great cars to be admired , lots of nice memorabila , spare parts and nice stuff to decorate your oldtimer garage. And yes, even in France, we Porsche aficionados can see some of our favourite cars too, or find a spare part for it.
And by the way, whenever you are in Reims, no matter what the goal of your visit is, shopping, champagne tasting, just hanging around, please just don't forget one thing. Go visit the old race track of Reims, you won't regret it. It's just great to walk around, see the old buildings, and how about closing your eyes and imagining the F1 cars of the era speeding the race track. Those were the times...
