The vintage car season in the Netherlands and Belgium traditionally starts with the Interclassics and Topmobiel exhibition in the MECC
exhibition spaces. Each and every year, the show has a special theme. In 2012 the organization decided to focus on both Porsche and the Mille Miglia.
I don’t think I need to explain something more about the 2 subjects. Neither do you need more information on the relationship between Porsche and the Mille Miglia.
But please don’t think this show wasn’t worth visiting if you’re not into the cars or history from the Zuffenhausen manufacturer or the legendary race in Italy. Ofcourse it was.
As soon as you entered the venues of the MECC, as it is in many shows, you take a dive into a different world. The world of people enjoying watching vintage cars, people chatting
with friends they didn’t see for a long time, meeting new folks with the same passion, looking for a part, a car , books brochures or memorabilia.
Before we head on to tell you some more about the main theme, I can assure you there were some real great cars at the show. From a rather common Volkswagen Beetle to the rarest
of the rare, like a Bugatti 57 Atlante. Nowadays people are often scared by titles in the newspapers, or bulletins on TV when they’re mentioning the economic situation in the world. Even
recession is often mentioned. Well, according to what I noticed at the show, lots of people don’t seem to be afraid , or they just want so spend their money in something they consider a
safe investment, or is it just for their own amusement ? I don’t know, but I noticed quite a lot of SOLD signs on many cars. And next to that, I mentioned the prices for vintage Porsches don’t seem
to be declining.
The Mille Miglia, la corsa piu bella del mondo (the most beautifull race in the world ) took place between 1927 and 1957. Since 1982 this race is back on the tracks, as a regularity race, and allowing cars
build between 1927 and 1957. The Mille Miglia exhibiton show a great range of cars once competing in the rally. And as you can imagine, State of Art had some of their cars in the exhibition too, with the 550 Spyder
and the early Porsche 356. Upstairs, dutch Porsche dealerships had a exhibition of cars with lots of Porsches , from a 1953 Porsche pre A to more recent models, including a rare Porsche 356 Speedster Carrera GT, a dutch Porsche 911 police car and many more.
